Who Are We?

We are a small group of individuals with a passion for performing arts. We have been involved in performing arts for many years, including Haulbowline Theatre Group and Cobh Community Theatre, amongst others, and we believe that Cobh deserves to have a thriving theatre to serve the community.

We have formed a Company with a view to making this project a success and we would like to hear from anyone who would like to be involved or to help out in any way.

Our Mission

Great Island Theatre is a Company Limited by Guarantee, established with the goal of creating a vibrant community theatre in the heart of Cobh.

Our home will be the Old Parochial Hall, which has been purchased in trust for this purpose. We are now embarking on the next crucial step - raising significant funds to complete the purchase and carry out essential renovations.

The theatre will have a capacity of 100 seats, with parking conveniently located in the Cathedral Car Park (already approved). It is being designed to meet the needs of all performing arts that require a stage and seated audience, with a focus on accessibility and community participation.

Plans include professional-grade lighting and audio systems tailored to the space, a welcoming reception area at the Roches Row entrance, and fully equipped changing rooms and toilet facilities.

This space will be a hub for creativity, connection, and cultural expression for the people of Cobh and the wider Great Island community.

The primary objective of Great Island Theatre is to advance the performing arts in Cobh and the wider Great Island area.

We aim to support and promote diverse community groups involved in the performing arts by providing a dedicated community theatre space—enabling them to showcase their talents and bring enjoyment to the broader community
